Self-publishing simple refers to the publication of any book or media by the author, without involving a third party publisher. With the invention of digital publishing technology in forms such as desktop publishing systems, self publication is increasingly becoming popular among writers. But what exactly motivates authors to defy trends and embrace this line of publishing?
Why Authors Choose Self Publication
There are many motivations as to why many are opting to become authors

Compulsion: A great number of authors have been forced to self publish simply because they could not be accepted by the established publishers. This could be because an author is not yet famous or is somehow controversial.
Freedom: Most authors are known to choose the option so as to have more artistic freedom. Some editorial changes made by third party publishers may not be pleasing to such authors.
Control over income: Some publishing houses are notorious for exploiting the talents and skills of their writers by offering very little in return. Many authors have thus been forced to self publish so as to have total control over sales and revenues.
Love for publishing: At times, an author who enjoys publishing may decide to it for themselves rather than spend money hiring third party printers. In some cases, the authors just desire full copyright protection of their work.
No matter the reason behind the author's choice, the constant factor is that they have to have a sound financial backing to look back to. Otherwise, they can try other variations of the trade like vanity publishing and print on demand (POD).
